Wisconsin Law Enforcement School Safety Initiative
Sheriff's,

As everyone should know, the BSSA has taken the lead in forming a law enforcement and school alliance to work with those in state government to support the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Safe School Initiative.

We were very optimistic that Governor Doyle and the Wisconsin Legislature would include the Safe School Initiative into the State budget bill proposal. Unfortunately, this did not happen.

Although we are very disappointed with the Legislatures decision, this does not mean that our Safe School Initiative is dead in the water. It just means that "we" need to go down another path.

Recently, Rep. Spencer Black and Senator Bob Jauch drafted School Security legislation (LRB 0387) that would allow school districts to spend above the state imposed spending caps for security personnel and for building modifications and equipment necessary to prevent criminal activity and to curb violence within Wisconsin schools.

Co-sponsers for LRB 0387 are needed by November 30, 2007.

We need to contact our Legislators and ask them to co-sponsor or support LRB 0387.

Please help us with this effort. To be successful, we need 100% participation from our Sheriffs. You can help by:

1 Giving your representatives a letter of support for LRB 0387.

2 Contacting your representatives and providing them with a copy of LRB 0387.

3 Asking your representatives to co-sponsor LRB 0387.

NOTE - For those attending next months BSSA meeting in Juneau County, this is a great time to compare letters and contact information.

A copy of LRB 0387 is found below.
