As law enforcement officials across the state work daily to keep our communities safe, every unit of government is working in these tough economic times to become more efficient and to find better and more cost effective ways to serve the citizens of Wisconsin.
As members of the Joint Finance Committee hold public sessions, many in the law enforcement community are concerned with some of the cost saving proposals being considered in Madison.
Members of the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Coalition urge all Sheriffs and other law enforcement administrators to carefully consider the Governor's proposal to:
1) Exempt federal stimulus funds from the Expenditure Restraint Program,
2) Reconsider changes to automobile license plate requirements,
3) Analyze the traffic stop data collection provision,
4) Eliminate the requirement for local law enforcement to reimburse the State Patrol for specific service.
